With Cuban government approval, the Centro Sephardi Synagogue in Havana is housing the Mitrani Jewish Day Care Center. This center is needed given that the average Jewish Cuban Senior receives a monthly pension of $12.00. Many have no relatives to help them, are isolated, and the absence of public transportation makes it difficult for them to leave their homes. The Senior Center at Centro Sefaradi provides breakfast, lunch, a snack, and most importantly, social interactions and activities that feed the mind and soul. JCC spearheaded the development and funding of the senior center to which other organizations, including World ORT, B’nai B’rith, and Cuban American Jewish Mission (CAJM), contributed.
